Once in a while, a brief presents itself that permits a designer’s creativity to truly shine. This Brisbane property afforded Germancraft Cabinets’ designer Katia Slogrove such a liberty.

The client desired a striking hub of the house that featured high-end appliances, custom features and an island bench that would become a centrepiece for family life.

Heavily influenced by the Art Deco period, each element of the space tips its hat to the era in no small way. A custom door pattern was created so that the realisation of the client’s request for a modern Art Deco-style space was as impactful as could be. To this end, the room is defined by the same sharp and straight lines that defined the period. A bespoke two-pack paint was created in the perfect purple hue to complement the room’s metallic gold elements - itself defined by gold laminate edging.

A back-lit, New York marble-clad island bench stands in the centre of the space, and is a beacon for socialising when illuminated at night. Overhead floats a custom bulkhead that houses a Qasair rangehood from Condari, which services the V-ZUG cooktop below. The gold laminate on the layered bulkhead is continued in bespoke lighting above the complementary sink and tapware. A subtle white splashback of penny round tiles grants the room an understated element to complement the opulence of the rest of the space.

All of the joinery is fitted with luxurious Blum hardware, which provides the homeowners with the convenience of a touch-to-open system. Even the fridge, which is integrated within the room’s expansive wall of cabinetry, can be opened by a slight press. The cabinetry doors maintain a consistent theme, and hide convenient drawers behind their facades.

What makes this project so special is not just the bold colours and luxurious materials, but the impeccable quality of its execution.

Project 1

This kitchen designed by katia slogrove of germancraft cabinets is the centrepiece of this home built by don cotterill of sanctuary 28, and perfectly unites the two requirements in germancraft cabinets’ client’s brief: providing a modern kitchen that is visually striking and also highly practical.

Great consideration was given to planning and designing the kitchen. Particular attention was paid to the placement of appliances to maximise functionality while minimising unnecessary traffic in the kitchen. this gives the space practical appeal, and means everything feels like it’s merely an arm’s length away.

To achieve the streamlined contemporary look, there are no handles on drawers; instead bevel grip was used on the top of the first drawer and at the bottom of the second drawer. this was done to minimise the shadowline detail across the joinery. the drawers have also been equipped with soft-close antaro technology and blum orga-Line accessories.

The island benchtop is made from a combination of 60mm mitred caesarstone in ‘Peatra grey’ and 20mm essastone in ‘crystal chalk’ with mirror laminate kickboards. it also has a stunning feature panel with special machined out pattern, which creates a spectacular focal point in the room. the doors and panels have been finished using a two- pack flat panel with accents of textured laminate in ‘Larcie cencere’, while the mirror shield splashback in ‘smoke glass’ allows plenty of natural light to fill the space.

With almost 40 years of industry experience between them, germancraft cabinets’ ‘hands-on’ directors tony grannall and Wayne havenaar offer knowledge and experience that can only come from a lifetime of learning.
